Colorado Springs, Colorado is located south of Denver at the bottom of Pikes Peak, the highest mountain peak of the Rocky Mountains. Colorado Springs is a tourist destination year round because of its weather and geographical location in the center of the state. However, tourism isn’t the only draw to Colorado Springs. The city is also home of the United State Air Force Academy and NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command).
The weather in Colorado Springs is perfect for Rocky Mountain recreation year round. As to be expected, there are many resorts in the surrounding areas that cater to impeccable skiing in the winter, where temperatures can dip well below freezing. The average winter temperature in Colorado Springs is right at 30.5 degrees F.
The average summer temperature in Colorado Springs is a relatively crisp 70 degrees F, making it the perfect destination for such outside activities as hiking, camping, fishing, mountain climbing, and mountain biking. The city also gets an average precipitation of 14.53 inches per year. Rain and snow are almost exactly evenly distributed throughout the year.
Colorado Springs’ coldest month is January, where the average cold temperature is just above 10 degrees F and its hottest month is July where the mercury climbs to over 82 degrees F for much of the month.
The time you travel to Colorado will depend on what you want to do there. Some people enjoy the skiing; others enjoy the glorious spring weather.
