China Hotels
When staying in China, you have a wide range of accommodation choices. Everything from cheap backpacker style places right up to the most classy, expensive high class hotels in the world. It all comes down to what you want to spend on your accomodation and what level of luxury you are comfortable with.
Some of the most expsnive hotels in China include:
- Grand Hyatt Hotel, Shanghai
- Four Seasons Hotel, Shanghai
- St. Regis Hotel, Beijing
These three hotels are some of the top hotels in the world in terms of service, convenience, facilities and luxury. They are at the top end of the market and rooms can be extremely expensive, so they are defnitely not for those travlers on a budget!
When it comes to budget accomodation you have a choice of hostels or zhusu which are basically small extra rooms. THere are also sleeper trains which can be affordable. Just beware that some of the very cheapest hotels may not even have hot water or a working toilet so you'll need to ask about tehse things before booking in.
Keep in mind also that when booking budget accommodation you can often negotiate on price, particularly during the quiet season. Ask them what the lowest price is they will take for a room and haggle from there!
There is a law in China that forbids foreigners from staying in the cheapest hotels, however this law is not strongly enforced but is one you should be aware of.. I do recommend however that you try and at least get a mid range hotel as they will have more comfortable facilities than the cheapest ones.
I recommend researching your hotel choices on Tripadvisor and other hotel review sites before booking, that way you wont get a totally unexpected surprise when you turn up!
